Accessibility

About accessibility on this site

The Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada website is designed to be accessible to the widest audience possible. It is compatible with popular screen reading software and was designed for those who, for a variety of reasons, may not be able to use a mouse. This website can be navigated using the keyboard on your computer or using other assistive devices.

Customize the site for you

You can change the look of this site to make it easier for you to read. You can make the text bigger and change the contrast. This section gives you instructions on how to do this.

Text size

Most Internet browsers let you change text size preferences within the browser. This lets you change the size of the text to suit your preference, no matter what text display options are built in to a website.

For example, if you're using Google Chrome select the three horizontal lines in the top right corner (“Customize and control Google Chrome"). Then select “Settings", and then under the “Web content" heading, you can change things like font size and page zoom to your own preferences.

Contrast

You can improve the contrast of this website by selecting a high contrast colour scheme.

Alternative text

Images on vlrehab.ca have alternative text attributes, also called alt text. This means that when an image is used to convey information, its content is also described in the alt text. This lets the image be understood by text browsers and assistive technologies like screen readers. If an image is used for decorative or non-informational purposes, the alt text for the image is left empty. This is in line with accepted best practice.
